UTC Jun 1, 2018 CHILLICOTHE – The crowd was small but appreciative as VFW District 12 Commander Bill Marsh led a modest Memorial Day ceremony Wednesday at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. While most celebrated and mourned the sacrifices of veterans on Monday, May 30 was the original date set aside and one Dave Robertson - an Army veteran - hopes to keep honoring at Floral Hills. "They went so long without it, I don't care if there's just two of us," Robertson said hours before the ceremony. It’s been seven years since Floral Hills had hosted an official Memorial Day ceremony with the VFW. The 2011 ceremony had been cancelled by a secretary at the time who was appalled by the devolving condition of the grounds. The business fell apart and the owners were found to have violated the Consumer Protection Act. Neglect from abandonment has remained a nagging reminder of the failure; a constant disrespect to the dead and their loved ones. ...
